Hunter Gatherer is tucked at the end of Albert Road serving up all those Australian style cafe vibes. It’s one of the many amazing cafes that makes Portsmouth’s independent food scene really stand out.

The coffee is excellent, the food is vegetarian with vegan options too and the space so warm and welcoming you’ll want to hang out there all day.

Brunch at Home Coffee, Southsea

Brunch at Home Coffee, Southsea

Portsmouth is blessed to be a coffee shop mecca on the south coast. There’s tons of beautiful independent coffee shops spread out sporadically throughout the graffiti lined streets of Southsea.

A while ago I found Home Coffee, a gorgeous understated little place near the start of Albert Road in Southsea. And, its name does it justice, it feels like you’re at home.

This place oozes cosy coffee shop vibes. I love people watching and spending slow mornings reading, writing and drinking coffee. And, this is the place to do it!

People pop in and out for takeaways, there are other people pottering about their mornings and there’s the perfect window seat to watch the world go by.

Here’s a look at Home Coffee…

Lunch at The Hut Behind the Hedge

Lunch at The Hut Behind the Hedge

Rock has some great places to eat and The Hut Behind The Hedge is no exception – a great little lunch or snack stop!

In fact, the term ‘hidden gem’ is over used but this is one and not well known out of local circles. If you’re headed to Rock, support local and make sure you order a slice of cake.

Take a look at the bright blue cabin which is definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area…

Beach Box Cafe Cornwall

Beach Box Cafe Cornwall

Across North Cornwall converted bright blue container cafes are popping up keeping beach goers fed and watered to make the most of their days out.

Beach Box Cafe is a local independent providing great coffee, smoothies, snacks and a whole lot of healthy stuff. The closest one to where we were staying was on the beach in Polzeath.

If you’re out and about and need a snack or a drink, Beach Box is the place to head to keep the wolf from the door.

Breakfast, brunch and coffee at Nude Food, Jersey

Breakfast, brunch and coffee at Nude Food, Jersey

Jersey is blessed to have a thriving foodie scene and Nude Food stands out as the top healthy, clean eating choice on the island.

I totally fell in love with the healthy food, the gorgeous cafes and seriously good coffee, it quickly became my go to place throughout the whole of the trip.

There’s branches called Nude Town in St. Helier and Nude Beach in St Aubin (I know, I giggled too, good to know someone has a sense of humour!).

If you’re in Jersey this is a great cafe that needs to be on your radar.

Breads, pastries and cakes are their specialism with a real love for creating sourdough.

Banana Bread Breakfast at Finca, Yeovil

Banana Bread Breakfast at Finca, Yeovil

My aversion to early mornings is nothing new. For me, there is no catching of the worm, I like my bed, I love sleep and lazy mornings are the best!

Over time I’ve learnt that there things I can do to lessen the impact of the inevitable alarm clock’s call. For me, early morning starts are remedied by coffee, sunshine and hot toasted banana bread.

On a recent work trip, an early start lead to the discovery of an excellent coffee spot in the heart of South Somerset’s Yeovil called Finca.
