Privacy Policy

Alright, grab that cuppa and make yourself comfortable, here’s Bright Lights Big City’s privacy policy…

Who we are

Well, you’re here already so I’m taking a cheeky guess that you’ll have some idea what this website is about but, just in case you don’t…

This website is Bright Lights Big City, http://www.rvhenderson.com and http://www.brightlightsbigcity.co.uk, a travel and food blog run by Rebecca Henderson and hosted by WordPress. That’s me, and if you’d like to know more visit the About Me page.

It’s just me running and writing this website, a one woman band, a loner ranger supported by her trusty steed, WordPress.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

If you comment on this website, the data you put into the comments form is collected along with your IP address, browser agent string, and any Gravatar information or services you use.

This means nothing to meeeee, ahhhhhhh, Viennnnnaaaa. 😂 We’ve got to have a laugh in this very serious document, no?

Apparently that stuff identifies your computer, helps stop spam detection and the Gravatar service allows you image to be show next to your comment.

If you comment you consent to sharing this information and for this information to be used in the comment capacity.

This is the same for the contact me form, if you want to send me a message using that form, you consent to sharing the data on that form with me.

Cookies

I could go for a cookie right now, those nice chewy luxury one’s. The one’s with the big chunks of chocolate that are perfect with a glass of milk.

Well suck it up sunshine, this isn’t that kind of cookie.

If you choose to leave a comment, you can opt to save your name, email and website in cookies – this consent will last 365 days from when you accept. It’s then super easy when you return to Bright Lights Big City to leave a comment as you won’t have to fill in your details again. Well, until 365 days are up!

Now go and get some real cookies, we’ve still got a lot of ground to cover. Pop the kettle on again too. It’s time for another cup of coffee to stay awake!

Embedded content from other websites

Bright Lights Big City likes sharing interesting and topical videos, images and articles. These and any other embedded content behaves in exactly the same way as if you had visited the other website.

I have no control over other websites and their activity, so be aware that those other websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

But, thanks to these GDPR regulations, those other websites should be GDPR compliant too!

Who we share your data with

Your personal data is not shared with any third parties or marketing.

If you subscribe, you have opted in to get any new posts I publish by email. I don’t have a newsletter and I’m not trying to sell you anything, so nothing to worry about on that front. But, rest assured, if anything changes you’ll be the first to know.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained by WordPress indefinitely. This is so any follow-up comments are recognised automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that subscribe to Bright Lights Big City, WordPress store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators (AKA only me, Bex!) can also see and edit that information.

OMG, I just learnt something new. I can edit comments! That’s partly what that last paragraph means. I would NEVER do this obviously but, I didn’t know that it was even a possibility. I wonder if people ever write or change comments – I bet they do! SNEAKY!

What rights you have over your data

If you have subscribe to Bright Lights Big City, or have left comments, you can request to receive the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

WordPress may check any visitor comments through an automated spam detection service.

Your contact information

If you have any questions please either contact me at Bright Lights Big City, read the GDPR information from WordPress or contact WordPress.

Well done, you’ve reached the end and get a gold star for sticking this out. ⭐
