Across North Cornwall converted bright blue container cafes are popping up keeping beach goers fed and watered to make the most of their days out.
Beach Box Cafe is a local independent providing great coffee, smoothies, snacks and a whole lot of healthy stuff. The closest one to where we were staying was on the beach in Polzeath.
If you’re out and about and need a snack or a drink, Beach Box is the place to head to keep the wolf from the door.
That’s us after a long day on the beach enjoy some rainbow lattes and warming up from some sea swimming!
Food & Drink
For a small cafe right on the beach, there are quite a lot of options on the menu. From breakfast stapes to toasties, halloumi fries and cakes there’s plenty of fuel for your day out.
I became really obsessed with the rainbow lattes, there was a tumeric, blue spirulina algae, matcha and pink pitaya dragon fruit and vanilla.
While I had several of the pink and blue ones, they were surprisingly delicious and shockingly bright!
I didn’t get round to trying the specialist drink they’re well known for making a Lassis, a yoghurt drink that is mixed with honey and cardamon, more popularly drunk in India. I don’t link honey but I think it would be really interesting to try this drink as I love cardamon. You know what I’ll be trying on my next visit.
Top Tip – they will make drinks in reusable cups, so after our first visit we took our reusable cups. But, the team behind Beach Box are thinking more sustainably as all the takeaway packaging is compostable, which is really good to see.
As there aren’t very many coffee shops in Polzeath, Cornwall seems to lack a bit of a coffee culture, it was nice to grab a drink early evening and wander on the beach. It bridged the gap between coffee shop and restaurant perfectly.
It also has a fantastic list of healthy smoothies. Keeping my immune system in check was the sunset smoothie, packed full of pineapple, mango, turmeric powder, coconut milk and banana or the green goddess, a mix of mango, pineapple, spinach, banana and wheatgrass powder.
On beach days, I’d grab a smoothie and sit and read on the sand in the sun. That’s what a staycation is all about!
I don’t know about you but when I stop and have a break or a holiday I always come down with a cold or a bug as I’m run down and it all catches up with me. In my first few days of my trip being able to pick up some fruity smoothies packed with vitamins kept me healthy.
Gelato
Oh and they also make their own artisan Cornish gelato, it’s called Bucca and it’s yummy!
There’s lots of flavours, all the classics and some quirkier flavours but, the classic chocolate is a winner in my book.
Top Tip – they accept card, great for not keeping cash on you during beach days.
