Vinilo – an independent record store returns to Southampton

It’s been a long time since we’ve had a dedicated record store in Southampton, maybe since the 80s or 90s. It’s been a while.

Record fans, you need to get down to Vinilo for all the latest vinyl discoveries.

This new store is set for expansion soon, it’s just off of East Street and just up from Debenhams on Queensway in Southampton City Centre. The shop has lots of natural light, succulents and lining the walls are newly released records next to a healthy pre-loved section. You can also grab a coffee and a slice of cake from the counter – so it’s great for spending a bit of time checking out what’s new in.

By the pre-loved section there’s a record player with earphones so you can listen to the vinyl and check its condition.

We spent a good hour looking through records and chatting with one of the owners, Virginia. She’s got great taste in music, so diverse and we stood there talking for ages about everyone from Sebastien Tellier to Childish Gambino. Bliss.

I adore hunting through records and know that I’ll be spending a bit of time here from now on. What a great thing to come into the city -it’s about time!

Vinilo is hosting events like record listening parties, teaming up with local bar Heartbreakers to DJ and doing a big record store day event. If you’re into music this is where you need to be. They are really invested in the local community and I can’t wait to attend one of their eventsAre you into vinyl? Where do you go in Southampton for your record fix? Normally we head over to the monthly record fair at the 1865.

OMG – also check out their merchandise, special printed runs of t-shirt the team design. I’ve already got one with ‘love your record collection’ printed on the front. I love it. Can’t wait to style it up. It will of course be over on my Instagram account some time in the near future.

Have you discovered Vinilo yet, what do you think of it?
