The new Showcase Cinema de Lux in Southampton has just upped the ante. Watch out local cinema, Showcase really is a game changer!It’s raised the bar for local cinema, transforming it for the better into the experience it should be.
Spoiler alert – I’ll give you the heads up now that this is a picture heavy post!
From the minute you step on the escalator the interior, bar and lounge areas make you feel like you’ve entered a luxury hotel. The entrance is spacious and has plenty of food and ticket terminals, which is going to be needed once everyone catches on to how great this cinema is!
The bar is a wonderful idea. Now there’s somewhere lovely and glamorous to meet before a cinema date where you can get a proper drink and some food. Awkward cinema dates are now a thing of the past. There’s even a Costa there if a coffee before the film is more your thing.
In each screen large, reclining, leather seats with loads of leg room are standard. I am 5ft 9 and my boyfriend 6ft 2 and we both had room and then some. The Xplus screens go from wall to wall and the audio is the latest swish offering from Dolby called Atmos.
Hoorah! Finally, a cinema that understands that if you are spending your hard-earned disposable income on a trip to the movies then comfort should be a priority for all, not a premium. It’s about time.
What makes it even better, is that this wonderful experience is exactly the same price as a ticket to the Odeon. I know where I’d rather be!
This will revolutionise the cinema going experience for people who struggle, like my Mum, who’s had a knee replacement. Being able to have space and put her feet up as standard will make life so much easier and more comfortable for her without having to pay ridiculous money for ‘VIP’ seating or having to arrive at the cinema unbelievably early to bag an aisle seat.
There were a range of films available, I opted for new Hollywood action film The Great Wall starring Matt Damon in 3D.
I had no idea what the plot was prior to seeing the film. From the name I thought it was a historical epic, not a sci-fi action film. But, it was easy watching, a proper popcorn action flick which perfectly showed off the screen and sound quality. Don’t go to see this if you’re expecting something worthy of an Oscar or two!
I hope it sounds like I am impressed, because I genuinely am. I think we’ve got used to sub-standard cinema going experiences and this blows the socks off the competition.
It reminded me of the cinemas in America that are much bigger than ours, have wide, reclining seats and much better audio and screens. I think they’ve been influenced by the quality of cinemas over the pond!
The visit totally exceeded my expectations and I can’t wait to go back. I definitely recommend a visit.
I want to see the new live action Disney Beauty and the Beast film there and the second Avatar when it comes out!
