The Rock Pizza Co.

The Rock Pizza Co. is the place to go for pizza and beautiful river views in Rock. Right on the seafront it’s a quick hop off the ferry and up the hill if you’re coming in from Padstow.

Location

You’ll find The Rock Pizza Co. in the tiny coastal fishing village of Rock in Cornwall. It’s literally slap bang on the River Camel estuary opposite Padstow. Conveniently there’s a regular ferry across the water which virtually takes you to the restaurant’s door!

Or, you can walk around the coastline from Polzeath, a beautiful walk and that’s what I did before visiting, to build up a bit of an appetite. The walk takes you across the Rock sand dunes, which are incredibly pretty.

Just down from the main car park in Rock is tiny complex of buildings housing about four restaurants and shops. The Rock Pizza Co. is on the first floor of these buildings. The elevation takes it up above the hedgerow and you can see spectacular views across the River Camel.

Inside The Rock Pizza Co.

It’s very nice inside The Rock Pizza Co. there’s lots of big tables and wooden features. But, where it really comes into its own is the balcony!

Oh man, that balcony. Those views. It’s just such a sweet spot. I spent a lovely lazy lunch after a long walk chilling out enjoying the sun and the views. When you’re on holiday that’s what you want, a nice cold drink, a set in the sun and pizza. I always have time for pizza!

If I lived here, this place would easily become my regular haunt. Especially when they put on great sunset pizza and drinks deals.

If you do sit inside, there’s some lovely tables but I particularly like the bar style area by the window. The view out across the Cornish coastline is a picture and lovely to look at.

Dinner

It’s safe to say the pizza was awesome, and a good size. I love thin artisan pizza, and they come in 12 and 20 inch sizes, which is definitely enough to satisfy even the biggest of appetites.

It was very bright – ignore my expression, I’m squinting into the sun!

There are lots of great topping combinations to try ranging from pulled pork to confit duck with hoisin sauce. There’s even vegan and gluten free options on the menu too.

When I visited I picked the parma ham, olives, mozzarella, mushroom, mascarpone, white truffle oil, rocket and parmesan pizza. It was a joy to eat. Oh I will pick this again if we go back. There’s something about the classic combination of ham, olives and mushrooms that the white truffle oil enhanced and took it up a level. And, I’m always here for that!

Mr BLBC (Mr Bright Lights Big City) had parma ham, fresh pineapple and mozzarella. And, so the debate begins, pineapple on pizza a big yes or a whopping no? You decide!

I personally cannot stand pineapple on pizza so I encourage Mr BLBC to have this when we are out and it’s on the menu. I like sweet food but not sweet food when it’s meant to be savoury. That’s why I’m not a fan of sweet breakfasts and will generally prefer savoury snacks etc.

He gave the pineapple pizza a big thumbs up, and scoffed the lot – it must have been good!

I know I keep banging on but, the setting is just fantastic. This was the view from my seat, and it had that lovely hazy summer glow that I just couldn’t really capture on camera.

Menu

Obviously the main staple of the menu is pizza but there are some cracking starters and sides that are worth checking out.

The burrata salad looks amazing and so did the crispy squid. We saw these dishes go out to another table and instantly regretted not ordering it!

The bar stocks an excellent range of drinks and the cocktails sounds amazing. One for next time I think.

The walk back to Polzeath was pizza fuelled and I thoroughly recommend a walk along Rock beach and the dunes even if you’re headed back on the ferry to Padstow.

Awesome pizza on the balcony enjoying spectacular views in the sun. This is a piece of me. I had a brilliant time and will aim to visit again on my next trip down.
