Arty Stan is an independent that’s flourished from the darkest depths of the pandemic bringing much joy to Southampton’s food scene.
The person behind Arty Stan AKA Jay is slinging ZA’s (pizzas, obviously!) from his Ooni (amazing super hot pizza oven) in the garden of his home, tinkering with all kinds of dough and topping recipes. And, what a breath of fresh air he is.
It took me a while to get a slot with Arty Stan because…EPIC PIZZA ALERT! Yes, sorry to spoil it straight away but, the pizzas are something else so, it’s literally no surprise that Southampton residents, and us a little bit further out, are clamouring at his door selling out his pizza time slots. (Yes I’ve already booked my second sitting in a few weeks time, do I care about the wait? ER, NOPE! It’s nice to have something to look forward to.)

Handmade, well researched, locally sourced ingredients and a lot of blooming LOVE goes into these pizzas. The best food comes from passionate people who love what they do and aspire to do things really well. And Arty Stan has cracked this little nugget of wisdom wide open bringing his own ‘donk’, ‘twist’ or ‘je ne sais quoi’ to his pizzas. And, of course, they are chuffing delicious!
Takeaway pizza from Arty Stan, at the time of writing this, is on Fridays only, a pre-order and collection service only. Allergies, gluten free and any other dietary requirements must be notified at least 48 hours in advance.
At the moment Jay and his wife are absolutely smashing it out of the park, serving up incredible pizzas and showing just how much Southampton needs more independent businesses and restaurants.

Anyway, it’s time to get onto the good stuff, what I ate, scoffed, nayyyyy devoured!
Mr Bright Lights Big City and I shared an absolute feast. And, because slots are rare we decided to go for the Arty Stan version of garlic bread too. There’s no food shame here, only good food choices and what an excellent decision this was, especially after a day when we hadn’t eaten a bean. The hanger was real – as we all know, you’re not you when you’re hungry!
The Ol’ Dirty Garlic Bread – homemade garlic oil, mozzarella and a sprinkle of dried basil, is a ruddy delight, and kind of a pizza in its own right. With a different star pattern, it’s more of a tear and share vibe. It’s hard to explain it, it’s a bit like if normal garlic bread had a glow up. It’s totally extra and I love it!

My other half aka Mr Bright Lights Big City had a Piggy Three Ways – a tomato base, mozzarella, fennel sausage, salami milano, streaky back bacon and a balsamic glaze. We swapped a slice and it was mega tasty and part of me wish I’d ordered this one. I definitely think Arty Stan pizza’s are for sharing, the menu’s got so many good pizza’s to try, it’s difficult to pick just one.
I really enjoyed the Mighty Mick – chestnut mushroom, parma ham, truffle infused mascarpone, finished with truffle oil and dried basil. Pizza’s without the tomato base are often my favourite kind, and the truffle gave this pizza a really good edge. Totally decadent and delicious.
Delicious dough, toppings and cooked to perfection. Boom. Southampton pizza fans, you’ve got to jump on this!

Yes it’s rave reviews from me and Mr BLBC for takeaway pizza from Arty Stan’s in Southampton. In fact we’ve already got our second slot lined up and will book a third as soon as he releases more. Instantly become a big fan, er yes, sign me up to full blown fan girl status. Do I need his new illuminati pizza t-shirt merchandise? Probably!
If you like the look of Arty Stan all I can say is be quick when he releases those time slots and don’t hesitate when clicking that order button. Although if you could leave me a slot, I would be ever so grateful, otherwise I’m not above bribing Jay with Haribo, beer and any other vice that might secure me a slot.
