Portsmouth is a treasure trove of great breakfast and brunch spots. I feel really spoilt to have all these awesome independents on my doorstep.
Southsea Coffee is no exception and a stellar cornerstone of the local food scene, it’s been thriving since 2013!
Plus it’s within walking distance of Southsea Common and the sea front. There’s nothing like a brisk stroll along the shore followed by food and coffee. That’s how you win at weekends!
Find out why this is one of my favourite places to go…

I love coffee, ok, that’s an understatement. Over the years my obsession with coffee, and different ways of brewing it, has grown exponentially and it’s a part of my day that I look forward to. It’s a warm, satisfying and comfortable pick me up that works whatever the season.
Are you a coffee fiend too? If you haven’t tried Monmouth before this post might give you a new coffee shop to head to when you’re next in London!
Monmouth Coffee is hands down my favourite coffee roasters. It’s been my number one for over six years years and I always get a large stash of coffee when we head to its HQ at Borough Market. Two of my favourite things Monmouth Coffee and Borough Market – a total match made!

THIS. This is how you do doughnuts and coffee. Unique sweet treats, super strength caffeine and a beautiful aesthetic. Hideout Coffee Company has it all.
The doughnuts are out of this world. Go now and go early, they sell out so quickly so, do not go unprepared!
I visited after it had been open for six days, and it’s been selling out every single day. For a very good reason too, those doughnuts are AMAZING.
And yes, they are ‘The Finest Coffee Perverts’ in Portsmouth!

Becketts is the restaurant in Southsea that’s been recommended to me over and over again. It’s been a Portsmouth staple for the last 30 years but came under new management in 2016 and is thriving in the city’s vibrant food scene.
It has an excellent reputation and now I’ve finally managed to visit I totally understand the hype.

My aversion to early mornings is nothing new. For me, there is no catching of the worm, I like my bed, I love sleep and lazy mornings are the best!
Over time I’ve learnt that there things I can do to lessen the impact of the inevitable alarm clock’s call. For me, early morning starts are remedied by coffee, sunshine and hot toasted banana bread.
On a recent work trip, an early start lead to the discovery of an excellent coffee spot in the heart of South Somerset’s Yeovil called Finca.
