Latin Food At Home
Lovely Catalina and Hernan sent me beef and chicken Empanadas, Montanera Arepa and Tostones for dinner. It was a proper Colombian feast!
The Tostones which can also be known as a Patacones are small rounds of flattened and fried green plantain slices.
They were so crispy and, to my surprise, not sweet at all. And, when the crispy Tostones is topped with the cool creamy guacamole, it forms the perfect mouthful.
Latin Food At Home has converted me to a plantain lover! They are like a side you have with your meal and they accompanied the Montanera Arepa.
I’ve only had Venezuelan Arepa before so it was really interesting to try a different culture’s take on a dish I am a little more familiar with.
Montanera Arepa is the combination of beef, rice, beans, chicharron which is fried pork belly a bit like chorizo and plantain. This was so so good and very filling – you will not be hungry after this!
You’ll definitely be more familiar with Empanadas which I like to call the Latin equivalent of an English Cornish pasty. I adore Empanadas, and these Colombian ones were fantastic – I actually preferred the chicken to the beef, it had a delicious soft centre and the tastiest spices.
Oh, and I must mention the chimichurri sauce – it was standout. I’d easily order two portions of this sauce next time because it was exceptional. Mr Bright Lights Big City and I fought over it, it was THAT good!
Try Colombian Food
Trying new food in my local area is such a treat. I have not had Colombian food in so long and I love it but, it’s hard to find in the UK. In fact the last time I had really good Colombian food was when I was in the Caribbean.
When Latin Food At Home got in touch, they sent me a lovely message to try the food with no expectations on posting about it. But, it was absolutely delicious and I can’t wait to share with you what I had for dinner!
Latin food is really one of my favourite types, I think my time in America, Mexico and the Caribbean has nurtured my love of this type of food.
If you like Mexican and Venezuelan food, Latin Food at Home will be right up your street.
