Kynance Cove is home to white sands, a tidal turquoise sea and unique rock stacks. If you’re looking for stunning scenery this is the place in Cornwall for you. It really is spectacular, with features that make it look tropical.
The beach does get extremely busy so, I’ve included a few tips for a slightly quieter visit. But, it’s still one of my favourite places in Cornwall and here’s why…
I get so excited writing about places I love. Kynance is definitely one of them. I first discovered it through my Mum who regularly goes to Cornwall and also in my National Trust handbook when I was researching new places to visit.
Getting to Kynance Cove
The steep walk to the cove is certainly worth the trek. You can even walk a beautiful path from Lizard Point along the coast which is about two miles long.
The quickest route down to the cove takes about five to ten minutes and is fairly steep. If you have an accessibility requirements I’d advise you take the other route, as it will be significantly easier.
The other route still has a fairly rough surface but if you have children and are bringing a pushchair this is definitely the route to take. It is a bit longer with the walk taking about 15-20 minutes to get down to the cove.
Top Tip – wear some sturdy comfortable shoes. Even if you make it down the steep walk in flip flops, there’s some very rocky terrain to cover before you make it to the beach.
The Tidal Beach
The first thing to point out, other than the beach’s beautiful, is that the beach is tidal. You are in real danger of getting cut off by the tide, so do check the tide times before your visit and stick to them.
Normally there’s a board at the top car park stating the tide times for the day but, it’s best to check before you visit to avoid disappointment.
Top Tip – Definitely check the tide times and write them down before you go. Phone signal isn’t always great there and it will save any worry and the ‘do we, don’t we’ scenario.
Breakfast with a view
For my latest visit I went early and had breakfast in the cafe in the cove. Even though I set out well before the average tourist, I was not the first down there. It’s a busy place guys, so plan your visit well.
The cafe serves up a big old bacon sarnie alongside incredible coastal views. Breakfast here with views across the cove is so special. I shared a lovely quiet brekkie with my partner enjoying the moment and taking five minutes to chill on a very jam-packed Cornwall trip.

Explore the Cove
The rest of the morning was spent exploring the cove before it became too busy. I love the feeling of sand between my toes, the crash of the waves on the rocks and the sun beating down on my face.
This spot on the Cornish coast is beautiful and at low tide you can explore the caves, the stacks and sit on the white sands that hug the shore.
I mean, I’m not entirely sure the pictures even do it justice. It’s unbelievably pretty and the steep walk down affords such a wonderful vantage point to the views across the cove.
You can go swimming here but no lifeguards are on duty so I personally wouldn’t advise it. There’s lots of rock outcrops too, which can mean there’s some strong currents along this bit of coastline.
Again, you can get cut off while swimming, as the tide comes in quickly. We were there when the tide came in and it is very fast, so keep an eye on who you are with and stick to those tide times.
Top Tips for your Trip
I’ve obviously shared lots of tips for a great visit throughout this post, but there’s a couple more worth noting too.
- Go early – depending on the tide, go as early as possible, the internet is not wrong, it does get extremely busy.
- Water – Take water and snacks with you, if you’re planning on spending a few hours there. The cafe is seasonal, so it depends when you visit to whether there will be food and drink available once you’re down there.
- Take a jumper – Even on a sunny day this spot can be extremely windy.
- Toilets – If you’ve not been for a while there’s now a loo block down by the cafe in the cove but there’s also one in the small car park hut.
- Dogs – Between 7am and 7pm from Easter Sunday until 30th September no dogs are allowed at Kynance Cove. This is enforced by the council. However, you can walk your dog along the alternative route to the cafe and along all the footpaths in the area.
Kynance Cove
Kynance Cove is truly spectacular and perfect for adventure loving travel fans. The walk along the coast is stunning and takes you along some prime Cornish coastline.

I’ve never been to Kynance Cove, even though I’m not far from Cornwall! I live in Devon, but I definitely think I need to visit Cornwall more regularly and make the most of what it has to offer!
Absolutely agree- although you do have some absolute treasures in Devon which I’m yet to explore!
