It’s Facebook privacy check-up time!

Do you know how to check your privacy settings on Facebook? Don’t worry I didn’t either! Facebook are doing a little prompt at the moment that guides you through a privacy check up. If you haven’t got this prompt yet, I’ll show you where to go to check your privacy settings manually.

Now I know this isn’t the most exciting this to do with your evenings, but no one likes spam emails and you don’t want to be handing your phone number out to just anyone now, do you?!

Settings change on Facebook all the time, so I think it’s really important just to give it a quick review every now and then to see if it is still what you want. Plus, it’s so easy and quick to do!

How to check privacy settings with the Facebook prompt…

When you see this message prompting you to do a privacy check up, press ‘Check Privacy’.

And then ‘Continue’ on the next page.

It then shows the default privacy settings on your account for posts. It even gives handy tips at the bottom, like this one which tell you the audience can be changed each time a post is made.

In the next section it goes through personal profile details like phone number, address and date of birth. Next to each option there is a drop down menu, like the one in the picture above, that gives the option to change who can see that information. I’ve obviously removed all this personal information from this picture to protect my own privacy!

Once that’s been done it does the same for the Apps that are currently connected to the account. Apps can be deleted or their privacy settings changed here. It also offers another handy tip!

That’s it, a short sharp check up on what you’re posting to the world. Pressing ‘Continue’ takes you back to your account.

How to check privacy settings without a Facebook prompt…

If you haven’t had this prompt head to the drop down arrow by the lock logo – seen in the image below.

Clicking ‘Settings’ will take you to the main settings menu, where you need to click on ‘Privacy’ which is the third option down.

Manual privacy check-up sorted!

It’s important to keep an eye on what personal information is available online to other people. I hope my how to guide helps you to check your own privacy settings.
