This Hampshire Food and Drink Christmas Gift Guide 2020 is here to help you navigate shopping local and online this festive season.
The majority of shopping this year looks like it will have to be done online or planned for the future.
Supporting local businesses and creators is particularly important this year, more than ever, as we all try and find our way through the challenges the pandemic presents.
But, will us Brits let is dampen our Christmas spirit? Hell no, I hear you cry, especially not when it comes to the food and fizz. We’re resilient creatives who, by hook or by crook, will spread some festive cheer thanks to the modern wonder of online ordering.
Here’s some of my favourite local food and drink to give you some gift ideas this year.
Hampshire Food and Drink Christmas Gift Guide 2020
I’ve focused on really good local produce that would be a real treat to receive at Christmas. This Hampshire Food and Drink Christmas Gift Guide 2020 is full of things I’ve personally bought before, so you know they’re tried and tested too.
The post is split this post into two categories products and experiences. I’ve also listed where the company is so you know you’re supporting a local business, person or creator.
It’s so exciting to share some of my favourite local food and drink with you. Hampshire has some truly lovely offerings which will definitely bring some festive cheer to your friends and family. When things are a bit darker, little treats like these add another layer of fun and seasonal feels to your at home festivities.
Food & Drink Products
Supporting a local Southampton business now with branches across Hampshire
Schedule a delivery for your pals for some pastries, an awesome treat box or minced pies to arrive over Christmas. The mince pies are incredible and I treat my family to some every year.
Supporting a local Southampton creator
For the sweetest treats to put in Christmas stockings take a look at the confectionary creations by The Whimsical Kitchen. Jackie’s makes show a real insight into her beautiful Willy Wonka brain. I buy her snowmen marshmallows every year to bring extra joy to my hot chocolates over the festive season. Last year they went down a storm with my godsons.
Her treats are made fresh, so check the dates under the products so you know when to order them so they’ll keep for Christmas gifts.
Support one of the many coffee roasters across Hampshire
For the coffee lovers in your life, make sure their day starts the right way with beans from one of these awesome local coffee roasters.
I’ve sampled a lot of the coffee beans in the area after recently writing 10 HAMPSHIRE COFFEE ROASTERS. There’s been a real explosion of Hampshire coffee roasters offering a great range of single origin and blended beans.
Support an Isle of Wight business
Isle of Wight Distillery makes a range of alcohol but my favourite is the Mermaid Gin. I really, really like the new strawberry flavoured Mermaid Pink Gin too. I’m sure this gin will go down a storm as a gift, as well as the beautiful bottle it comes in.
Support a local Portsmouth business
I first bought some Staggeringly Good beers for my boyfriend last year for Christmas. He thoroughly enjoyed them and if you know someone who would appreciate some craft beers, then Staggeringly Good have a fabulous range branded with dinosaur whimsy, puns and film parody names.
Support a local Hambledon producer and vineyard
This is my favourite local English Sparkling Wine, it’s so tasty. I first had it at The Pig in Brockenhurst and I’ve been drinking it ever since.
The Hambledon Classic Cuveee is my personal favourite but they have a rose and premiere versions of each. For 2020 they are releasing a new Christmas gift pack with 2 glasses, a fizz wine stopper, and a bottle of one of the wines. They also have offers on bottles for at home too, in case you want to treat yourself.
I’m definitely going to book onto one of their Christmas events if it’s possible, it was my goal for this summer but 2020 has had other plans for me so far!
Savoury Christmas Food
Support a local New Forest farm and producer
The farm is on the Salisbury Hampshire border in the New Forest and uses local milk and animals to create some absolutely incredible cheese.
As we probably can’t go out for the normal festive meals this year send your pals some cheese for their cheeseboard to enjoy on the big day.
My recommendations are the Old Winchester, Stoney Cross and Garlic and Nettle cheeses. These will go lovely with wine as a course post dinner or as dinner itself!
I’d like to try the smoked cheese next.- I think that’s one of the only ones I’ve not tried.
Supporting producers and farmers on the Isle of Wight
The Garlic Farm garlic, sauces and condiments make a great gift. Who doesn’t like pulling out something locally made and utterly delicious from the cupboard to accompany the cheese board at Christmas?
Also, they make a Back Garlic Vodka for the true garlic lovers out there!
Food & Drink Christmas Gift Experiences
If you’re looking for an experience either for when lockdown measures have eased or for something to look forward to in 2021 then these suggestions might give you some ideas.
I’ve scaled this section back, as it’s still unclear what will be happening in the coming weeks. It made me a little sad to do that after I’d written this in such excitement in October. But, it will help you make some plans for future. And, at the moment I think it’s nice to have something to look forward to, don’t you?
Dine at The Pig and enjoy a meal made with local produce located from a 25 mile radius. A sultry, relaxing afternoon or evening with excellent food can be spent once lockdown is over and you can even take a walk through the New Forest too.
Enjoy locally foraged, fermented and barrel aged drinks from expert inventor, creator and forager Eoghan. His creations truly are something you will never have had before. And his shop-come-cafe-come-innovation-kitchen will be a dreamy date when lockdown is over.
I’m working my way through the menu but already love The Woodsman, Foraged Cream Soda and the Hampshire Honeydew – which is like what licking a Victorian would taste like. No, seriously, the drinks are something else. Take an afternoon out to enjoy Eoghan’s stunning surroundings and creations.
Book a Hampshire Vineyard Tour as a gift
Here’s 10 HAMPSHIRE VINEYARD TOURS to discover the still and sparkling award winning wines produced in the county. Thankfully most vineyard tours are outside so there’s a very good chance you’ll be able to book this once lockdown is a little less severe. It’s easy to stay socially distanced and in well ventilated spaces.
Thankfully Hampshire is blessed with an amazing array of vineyards for you to pick from.
Book a Hampshire Distillery Tour as a gift
If wine isn’t your tipple and you prefer a gin, vodka or rum take a look at these 5 HAMPSHIRE DISTILLERY TOURS.
Home of big name Bombay Sapphire right through to small batch boutique distillery tours, the county has a range of experiences including tours and tastings to actual gin making schools.
