Get the glow with make up from The Body Shop

What better way to start the summer than trying some new make up bits to enhance your look to suit the season ahead.

A make up master class with The Body Shop at West Quay in Southampton* has me chasing that summer glow!

Take a look at the products that will help you achieve a radiant look.

We saw lots of products from the main make up range and an exclusive preview of the new Brow Sport and Lash Sport Mascara.

A big hello from the Southampton Bloggers!

Keeping me company were several bloggers from the Southampton Bloggers community and the lovely Amy Harwood became model for the evening.

Here’s Amy’s glow makeover…

Almost done! Just adding a bit of highlighter.
The final look!

Here’s the key items used on Amy’s face to get this look…

The Base

Amy’s base

Having a good base is really important to control the natural oils that occur and to make sure it’s a nice blank canvas for you to do your thing.

The Vitamin E gel moisture cream I’ve been assured is a staple among the beauty community. It smelt lovely and soaked in quickly due to the lighter gel formula, perfect for speeding up your morning routine. It’s definitely something I’m going to try when my current cream runs out.

On top of this a layer of InstaBlur was added. This was a real stand out product for me and is a really similar consistency to the Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer.  Initially it feels very creamy, that silicon texture but once it’s worked into the skin and settles it’s not oily at all.

Foundation

The Fresh Nude Foundation was used to create a light base. It’s silky and light and doesn’t sit heavily on the skin. It’s not a full coverage foundation but it can be built up and it’s perfect for the summer and for fans of a lighter consistency like a CC or BB cream.

I am the same shade as Amy – it’s called Bora Bora from the Fresh Nude Foundation range. It’s so cute that they’ve named products from places around the world.

This looked so good that I decided to buy this and can’t wait to try it out on a daily basis and see how it lasts over the course of a day.

The look was then finished with the pressed powder to set the foundation.

Eyes

The eyes were completed with The Body Shop’s Face Contouring Palette and the colours added definition to the look. These colours are such beautiful warm tones for summer and really helped start to bring the glow to the look.

Highlighter

The Coral Shimmer Waves is such a gorgeous highlighter. What you can’t see is that the light creamy colour has an underlying pink to it, so once it’s fully blended in it turns into such a dazzling glowly highlighter. The warm tones in it also are better for that more bronzed summer look.

Go test this out, the pigment is so different to how the picture looks.

Lips

Completing the look is The Body Shop Matte Lip Liquid.

Now, shock horror I’ve never had a matte lipstick. Stop! I know. It’s criminal and I’m only just getting to grips with how amazing they are.

I had a little try of a matte lip at the Yves Saint Laurent event and it was lovely, I’ve heard the Kat Von D one is the best but as I’ve never really tried them I’ve got no idea what to expect. I’m open to any suggestions, let me know if there’s any ‘must tries’ that you’d recommend!

Finishing Amy’s look off was a slick of Sydney, a bright orange-red matt lip liquid, which suited her perfectly.

Windsor Rose Matte Lip Liquid

So Sydney is definitely too bright for me. But, Windsor Rose is more my vibe and I snapped it up to try out a matte lip.

It’s a rich, creamy consistency but doesn’t dry out the lip. I really liked the texture and different colours available. I’ve wanted something for every day use as I’m blitzing through my MAC lipsticks at a very fast rate.

I’ve got a suspicion this is fast going to become one of my favourites. Hello Windsor Rose!

And to finish everything off, the Mark-Up Setting Spray!
All the items used to ‘get the summer glow’!

There were so many lovely products at affordable prices and it really opened my eyes to what The Body Shop has to offer. There were lots of products you can add into your regular make up routine to get that summer style without breaking the bank.

Did you know that the Southampton branch have their own Instagram account? It’s call @thequaytobeauty and shows offers, events and new launches in store.

Exclusive sneak peek…

We also had a preview of the Lash Sport and Brow Sport, two new products launching for summer. These eye items are designed not to budge and handle the summer’s inevitable sweat, sports and long days out.

I’d like to try these products and test their durability against the different elements, they look good but the proof is in the pudding.

The Brow Sport marks the skin (I tested it on my hand and although the top layer has come off it’s still on my hand over five hours later!), so be careful when you apply this one!

The good thing is that the applicator is like a calligraphy pen, so you can easily get clean lines or build coverage with little brush marks in the same direction as the eyebrows.

It was a fun night and we event got a little goodie bag to take home, The Body Shop is always so generous and the staff so helpful and friendly, there’s always a great atmosphere at their events.

Have you got any recommendations from The Body Shop make up range? This was my first introduction to the brand’s make up offerings and would love to know what products people like and that are worth trying!

The Body Shop were so kind and sent us home with a few samples to try.
