[AD] Recently I was invited to do something I didn’t think would be possible this year, a Christmas Wreath Making at Charlotte’s Crafty Cottage.
Charlotte saw that I hadn’t been able to make a wreath this year and invited me to one of her socially distanced classes. It’s done per household bubble and in a very well ventilated and clean cabin in Titchfield, Hampshire.
If you’re looking for a year round wreath making experience it’s worth noting that Charlotte also does Easter, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Halloween wreath classes too.
Here’s what’s involved…
Charlotte’s Crafty Cottage Christmas Wreath Making
On arrival at the class, Charlotte and Debbie, the ladies that run the classes get you settled in at your station. You’ve got your own standing up desk set up with everything you need to make a wreath. Wire cutters, wire, secateurs and pre-cut bits of holly are all neatly laid out waiting for you.
After 15 minutes tuition on how to put the wreath together, it’s then time for you to have a go. Debbie explained this bit really clearly which would make it very easy for any first time wreath maker.
Help is available if you need it and they check in on you every now and then to help you with any fixings and ribbon.
Plus, they have lots of creative suggestions if you’re a bit stuck on what to do. Charlotte said crescent wreaths are very popular this year, and I loved this idea. From that I knew exactly the kind of wreath I wanted to make.
After a couple of minutes I totally got in the festive zone. It was just the dose of Christmas spirit I needed after a long week at work.
Charlotte and Debbie are so warm and welcoming and this definitely added to the experience.
Wreath Class and Christmas Pick and Mix!
Wreath class packages start from £18 per person and Charlotte’s Crafty Cottage has something I’ve never seen before at a wreath class… Christmas decoration pick and mix!
It’s a table running the length of the cabin full of ribbon and boxes upon boxes of Christmas decorations. It means you can pick exactly what you want to add to your wreath to represent your personal style.
And, Charlotte’s totally got you covered, the £18 covers your basic wreath and a selection of decorations like cinnamon sticks, dried orange, ribbon and bells. Then you can buy any additional extras that take your fancy.
I’ve only been to wreath classes before that have set decorations and no option to buy add ons to make your wreath your own. It is such a great idea and I really appreciated being able to try out different decorations to see what I liked the most.
Decorating the wreath
I’m quite plain when it comes to decorations, preferring the natural look. But, there was something truly for all tastes, styles and homes. From the truly bling – think glitter and everything that sparkles to kitch mushrooms, cute polar bears or frosted winter berries and more bells than Santa’s sleigh.
There’s also an incredible selection of Christmas wired ribbons, and you get a metre with your kit.
From glorious tartan to velvet and two tone, again there’s something for everyone. I went with a beautiful two tone burnt orange and green one. But, I easily could have gone tartan, jute or sparkles – it was a really lovely selection. And, the wire gives that added finesse too.

Charlotte’s Crafty Cottage is easy to find and conveniently located a short distance from the M27 and Southampton and Portsmouth.
It’s also located on the same farm as J West Christmas Trees, which I’ve also written about. So, not only can you make a wreath but, you can pick up your real Christmas tree too. They also stock useful things like stands, Christmas decorations and pre-made wreaths too.
I also saw them setting up fireworks for New Year’s Eve celebrations for displays at home this year. Hello fancy at home fizz, bang, pops!

Charlotte invited me to this class, and I was over the moon to not miss out on one of my favourite Christmas traditions. I don’t think she knows how grateful I am for adding a bit of normality to a weird old 2020. It’s labelled an AD but she’s asked for nothing in return. They even invited my Mum to join me in my household bubble for the class too – how sweet is that?
