Brits have always had Hygge, it’s called being cosy.

Hygge, a ‘new’ lifestyle trend, has spread from Denmark like wildfire. The UK seems totally enchanted with these rules to live by and it’s not hard to see why when it promotes warmth, calm and happiness.

I like the principles of hygge, but I am fed up of being told this is a Danish ‘art’ when us Brits have been masters of being cosy for years. It’s time to make a stand. It’s time to reclaim being cosy for Brits everywhere.

I love being cosy. I am very good at being cosy. My family are all skilled creators of cosy living. I need not go on, you get my point. And, for once I’m going to toot my own trumpet, this is something I excel at.

I am your go to gal for pillow forts, blanket dens, snuggling, soft lighting and eating while in bed.

This is the communication of lifestyle. Public relations for the Great British lifestyle, and the Danish are not getting all the credit.

So yes, I have got a little bit miffed when several new books launched in 2016 explaining the hygge lifestyle as Danish. But, I am open to new ideas and suggestions of how to achieve getting snuggly, cosy and chilled out. Essentially I am annoyed that Brits get no recognition for their cosy credentials, but happy to have beautiful new Danish ideas about how to make my life more relaxed and snug.

Do you do or have any of these?

  • The log fire
  • Long winter/summer walks
  • Soaking up sun rays
  • Wrapping up
    • Socks
    • Blankets
    • slouchy jumpers
  • Lighting
    • Lamps
    • Candles
    • Fairy Lights
  • Chilling out in bed
    • Food in bed
    • Drinks in bed
  • Sunday Roasts

Perhaps you are a different nationality? When reading this do you recognise any of these as lifestyle traits from your country? Is there an equivalent word that represents hygge or cosy in the native language of that country?
