Local dignitaries and business leaders were invited to take a peek of the Southampton Harbour Hotel & Spa to celebrate the progress of the development.
The £36 million development is transforming Ocean Village with a sleek design that is going to look like a luxury yacht. Initial details of the development were released in the summer and featured in the Southern Daily Echo with CGI’s showing how the hotel is expected to look.
Guests were shown up to the roof top where the restaurant, terrace and champagne bar will be when the development is complete.
It was an exciting journey being guided through the concrete construction to the top of the hotel. To see the development at the very beginning is quite special. Southampton is being regenerated and this hotel marks Ocean Village’s step up and contribution to the city’s current growth spurt.
The first thing that hits you are the stunning views of the local area, the port and out across the Solent. These views are spectacular and with the sun setting it was very peaceful. It is easy to imagine how beautiful it will be when it’s finished and these views are the backdrop to your evening.
Chef Patron Alex Aitken will be championing local sustainable seafood in the restaurant which will be the next endeavour and continuation of The Jetty brand. It will be amazing to be able to sample the tasty delights direct from our coastline.
A string quartet playing contemporary songs in a classical style created a relaxed sound track to the ceremony. Speeches revealed that the development is due to be complete by summer 2017, ready for me to hit that champagne bar after work and catch some sunshine on the terrace! It’s going to be so exciting seeing this new development get ship shape.
