It’s typical isn’t it, we’re in the middle of a major heatwave and all of a sudden we get three days of thunderstorms. So how do you remedy a miserable day? A cosy afternoon tea will do it!

A visit to The White Horse* in Romsey could not have been better timed!

The White Horse hotel is gorgeous and has a beautiful courtyard which can be enjoyed in better weather. I’d been there just a few weeks earlier for my friends hen party and loved sitting outside with a jug of Pimms.

For afternoon tea I joined a group of friends and bloggers in the historic Tudor lounge in front of the fire place. We all said how wonderful it would be to go back and sit there in the winter when it was lit and nearer to Christmas! Imagine how glorious this will be when the fire it lit and it’s the middle of winter.

There was a large selection of teas, even a chocolate and popcorn variety, and you can try as many as you like. I forgot to change my tea half way through as I was enjoying it so much, I’ll have to try the popcorn one next time!

I went for the Darjeeling Earl Grey, the citrus blend works so well with dainty finger sandwiches and tiny cakes. Tea Pigs is the brand of tea they use and it was really refreshing – I’d definitely have this again.

After the tea was brought out they also surprised us with a mix of cocktails and mocktails, which was a really cute touch. They were superb, I had a sip of each and to be honest I’d love to go back to sink a few cocktails there one weekend very soon. My mocktail was similar to a mojito – next time I’ll be adding some rum to that!

That’s one happy face! It was so lovely to go with the girls and catch up over tea and tiny sarnies. Often blogging events are so busy and there’s such a lot of social media to be done that there isn’t the time to relax and have a proper natter.

The warm scones were the best bit! They were so light and fluffy, plus they served the traditional jam but also some lemon curd with them and I’ve never tried that before. As it turns out I really like lemon curd on scones, delicious! 

The scones were incredible as were the strawberry and cream macaroons. It’s always difficult to discuss the negatives along with the positives especially with gifted experiences but, I have to be honest, the other cakes I didn’t really enjoy. Some were obviously down to personal opinion, they just weren’t up my street, and some of it was down to execution. But, like with all things, go and try it out for yourself, that’s why it is an opinion!

However it didn’t detract from what I did enjoy, the cute setting, those scones and a relaxing afternoon spent with friends. It was such a relaxing afternoon.

Next time I’d like to go back for cocktails and to try the restaurant out as I’ve heard great things from my friends who live locally.
